In October of 2024 I chose to set aside my 42-year career serving as an interest rate derivatives specialist to banks, bankers and bank clients, to focus on serving as husband, father, grandfather and volunteer to my family, church and community organizations.
When I was in high school moving toward college, my very practical Dad (a community bank CEO) discouraged me from pursuing my passion for teaching and instead encouraged me to join a bank training program, where I could learn business basics and then "write my own ticket" in the corporate world. Ironically, most of my work in the field of swaps, while labeled "marketing" or "sales", consisted of educating my clients about the benefits of hedging and helping them to rationally understand and balance the risks and rewards of utilizing derivatives as a powerful tool.
I launched Swaps on Main Street to continue serving as an educating resource to community banks and credit unions who are intrigued by the potential benefits of hedging with interest rate derivatives, but hesitant to embrace them due to fear or lack of understanding.
